I can't believe it's been 6 weeks since Camden was born! Time is really flying by yet going so slow at the same time. I am always reminded of a quote I heard about motherhood, and raising small children...something along the lines of "the days are slow, but the years are fast". I'm not going to lie and sugar coat things saying everything is wonderful, and life has returned to normal. It's not even controlled chaos over here. Its all out crazy town. Everyday. All day. But I can say that though I find myself looking to the near future where Camden is sleeping through the night, is interacting more like smiling and laughing, and getting out the house doesn't take 2 hours of prep (well...maybe 45 minutes), I know this newborn stage is going to fly by and I can say my heart has never been so full. It might just explode with happiness at any moment :)
Cam the Man is growing like crazy and is already filling out his 3 month size clothes to the max! We are in the middle of another growth spurt where he wants to eat all the time, and tends to get VERY fussy in the evening. After doing some googling, it seems that a baby's fussiest time is around 6 weeks so here's hoping that over the next week or so we will start to sleep more than 2.5 - 3 hour stretches, and we will have more awake time where he's not fussy.
Camden is such a snuggler, and lately his favorite person in the world to snuggle with is his big sister!
Laila LOVES her little brother. She adores him so much, its pretty unreal. And she's very bossy about making sure he has everything he needs! If I'm holding him and he's crying, she frantically grabs a stuffed animal, holds it up on her shoulder and pats its back while giving me a look like "geez Mom! You're holding the baby all wrong! He needs to be burped!" Or if he's in his swing and starts to fuss she points to him, looks at me and yells, "SSSSSSSS" which is what she calls her paci. She takes such good care of him, and is always trying to pile toys, and blankets on him, and trying to clap his hands for him or tickle his toes. Seeing how nurturing she is, and seeing them together starting to interact is so...I can't even think of a word. Its beautiful.
We are getting a bad case of cabin fever over here, feeling really cooped up. I'm terrified of this flu season so we are trying to stay away from very public places until Cam is a little older but we ventured out to Home Depot last week and big sister wasn't having it sitting in her stroller. She wanted to push her little brother around the store (and crashed into a display of paint supplies and almost knocked it all over). We are trying really hard to let her be involved as much as (safely) possible. Its easy to want to tell her no all the time when she wants to do things for Camden, but letting her be involved and praising her efforts I think has really helped there not be any jealously. I'm pretty sure she thinks Camden is her baby.
I still can't believe just a year and a half ago, I didn't have any kids. Now I have TWO. Chris and I look at each other at least twice a day, amongst the dirty diapers, pacis, bottles, burp cloths, stickers, crayons, and 800 stuffed animals and baby dolls that have taken up residence on our living room floor, and say to each other, "Can you believe we have TWO kids?!" I really can't. But nobody pinch me please ;)
